Remembering

I can't really say that the Martin Luther King holiday has had any great personal effect on me.  Well, at least it hadn't until recently.  A product of aging I suppose is the increasing need to reflect.  While I was very young during the turbulent sixties I can still remember many of the events that shaped the era.  I can remember watching Dr. King and the march on Washington.  I can also still see in my minds eye the sadness of his funeral.  And then there were the awful riots.

This country has come a long way.  Injustice of the past is slowly rectified.  For whatever personal shortcomings he had Dr. King deserves to be remembered for the way he forever altered the national landscape.  May he rest in peace.
