Changes

Tomorrow members of my family (not me of course, working as usual) will gather at a local spot for a farewell lunch for my Uncle Bob. No, not a funeral repast (thank God) but a last local get together before he and his bride load in to the car and head south for destination retirement.

A lot of men enjoy the moniker of Uncle these days. Whether its the absent brother of your father or your divorced mother's latest boyfriend, the title gets a bit over used. Such was not the case with Uncle Bob.

Fishing trips, a ride on his boat and always the coolest Christmas presents Uncle Bob was and is the real deal. But the sad reality is that he is moving and life being what it is we really won't be seeing each other all that much. To compound the sadness, since selling the house it is the first time since 1939 that a member of my Mom's family won't be living there.

I wish them a long and healthy retirement and hope that we will see each other again soon.

Getting older is for the birds.
